Miniature Hereford Size Comparison
We thought we would take advantage of this wonderful photo to give you a good visual explanation of the three different classes of Hereford cattle. The larger one in the photo to the right is a full size Hereford cow. The cow in the middle is classified as a classic Hereford. They are like the first Hereford cattle that were brought to the United States and are also what you see in the old westerns on television. The smallest cow in the photo is a miniature and they range in frame score from a 0 (largest) to 0000 (smallest). The miniature Hereford cow pictured in this photo is one of our 00 cows. We also have miniatures smaller than her. Frame scores are determined by measuring from the ground to the top of the animal’s hip bone. While a miniature Hereford is smaller in height size, a good miniature Hereford will maintain their conformation as their larger counterparts. For more information on frame scores, please see the Classifications section of the About Miniature Herefords page. As far as dwarfism, there is no dwarfism gene found in this breed in the American Hereford Association’s Registry.
These are also some good photos showing a full size cow and 00 miniature Hereford cows from our herd.
